| The Canary Islands are an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the outermost regions of the European Union.
It consists of seven islands: El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, La Palma, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote plus several small island rich in nature The archipelago is close to the north of Africa,the coast of southern Morocco and the Sahara. This islands with volcanic origin are part of the region of Macaronesia similar to the archipelagos of Cabo Verde, Azores, Madeira etc The climate is subtropical, but varies locally depending on the altitude and area of the island: north or south. This climate diverse leads to an amazing biological diversity, that along with the rich and geological landscape, explains why Canary has four National Parks and many Natural Parks as well as counting with a wide range of islands considered Biosphere Reserves or World Heritage Site. The Canary Islands are definitely a unique islands of Nature that keep in their territories and immense diversity and beauty usually unnoticed for the majority of the millions of tourists who visit them each year.
